Trip to Dhampus Australian Camp

Trek to Dhampus Australian Camp is a very easy and comfortable trek for young international students .The place also serves as one of the main entry points to Annapurna Base camp and to other trekking trails of Annapurna Region. The village ranges from an altitude of 800 m at the base to 1600m. Trek to Dhampus village, one of the paradises of Nepal, begins from Phedi village, nearly a 30 minutes’ drive from beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara. From here one trek alongside beautiful views of golden rice terraces the vast expanse of the Annapurna Mountain range. This 2 hours climb to Dhampus continues through magnificent rhododendron forest nesting various species of birds to the village of Chandrakot, inhabited by the warm-hearted and hospitable Gurung People. When you emerge from the forest and reach Dhampus, you will be able to marvel at exceptional view of massive Mt. Machhapuchhare. Popularly known as Fishtail Mountain 6900m for its peak resemble the shape of fish’s tail. From Dhampus one can also grab the exceptional view of Pokhara and the scenery gets even better as the sun goes down. The small village comprise of enormous beauty of mountains, friendly Gurung People, a small lake from where one can get the reflection of fishtail, temples, flowers, mustard fields, birds, and many more. Dhampus is not just a Mountain View point but a culturally rich village of the ethnic Gurung people. You will also have an opportunity for a close look at the daily lives of the villagers. The walk next day through forest to the Australian camp is also equally scenic.

The panoramic landscapes and varied cultures of different ethnic groups along the route make it a very popular choice for international school trips. After this trek in the Himalayas, students will spend time with Moonlight School where they do a 1.5 or 2 day service project including teaching a lesson, running classroom games & experiencing cultural interactions. They can also participate in service learning projects like painting classrooms, constructing a pathway or wall, building a toilet or small buildings, or planting and supporting an organic garden etc. The work can be tailored to student interests and the needs of the school.

Day 01
Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be welcomed at the airport by our representative and transferred to your hotel by private car. After you settle into the hotel, you will have a welcome drink, followed by a briefing with your tour leader. He will discuss the trip details and co-ordinate any last minute arrangements. Enjoy your overnight stay at a deluxe hotel in Kathmandu
Day 02
Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara (35min) and transfer to Hotel
Enjoy a breakfast and drive to Airport and flight to Pokhara, and check you in at your hotel once you arrive. After resting for a while, we hike to Peace Pagoda which takes about 1 hour of walking. We can see panoramic views of the magnificent and high Himalayan range spanning Manaslu (8,163 m) to the Dhaulagiri (8,176m) range including Fishtail (6,900m) and Annapurna Massif as well as the scenic Pokhara valley and lake. Then, we will drive back to the hotel and explore the surroundings and simply relax at the heart of Lakeside, the main city of Pokhara. You will enjoy your overnight stay at a deluxe hotel in Pokhara.
Day 03
Drive from Pokhara to Phedi and trek to Dhampus Village 1650m/3hours.
After breakfast,we will take a van and drive to Phedi which takes about 45 minutes. We will start to steep climb up with stone staircases through the Rhododendron forest until reaching lower Dhampus which takes about 1 hour. Then, we will gently climb up again passing the terraced fields and small houses. We again keep climbing up through the rhododendron forest until reaching on the ridge which takes about 1 hour. We can see very spectacular Annapurna Range and Fishtail. Then, we trek on the plain or road trail until reaching our Hotel which takes about 30 minutes. We will have a lunch and whole afternoon free for resting, studying and playing. We stay overnight in Hotel with very good view of majestic Himalayan ranges and valley view.
Day 04
Trek from Dhampus Village to Australian Camp 2165m/3 hours and afternoon short jungle walking
After breakfast, we will start gently climb up through the rhododendron and oak forests until reaching Pothana which takes about 1 and half hour. We make a short rest and keep climbing up with stone staircases until reaching Australian Camp which takes about 1 hour. We will have a lunch. Afternoon, we make a short Jungle Walking just above our hotel. The trail is good to walk through the Rhododendron, oak and fir forest about 1 and half hour and back to Hotel. Luckily, sometime we can see white face monkey and some wild animals as well as very beautiful birds. This is very spectacular when the Rhododendron is blooming in the March and April. We will enjoy with Sunset view over the Himalayas in the evening. We will stay overnight in Hotel.
Day 05
Trek from Australian Camp to Kande 1770m/2 hours and drive to Sarangkot‎
Enjoy with sunrise view over the majestic Himalayas, then have a breakfast. After breakfast, we will gently walk down in the plain trail for a while, and then we climb down in the rocky trail with many stone staircases viewing the village of Kande and high way until reaching Kande which takes about 2 hours. Our vans are waiting to us and drive to Sarangkot‎ which takes about 45 minutes and transfer to Hotel in Sarangkot‎, this is a place to relax your mind and body, to get in touch with nature, experience Nepali Hospitality, and escape the hectic demands of the city life all in comfort of a superb place from where you can enjoy the most breathtaking views of the mountain range from Dhaulagiri ( 8167m) in the west to mighty Fishtail (7900m) , whole Annapurna massif and Manaslu (8,163m) in the east. This is the vantage point to rest after the trek with enjoying spectacular mountains views. Stay overnight at Hotel.
Day 06
Drive to Pokhara and flight back to Kathmandu
Take in the panoramic views of the Himalayas from the view point tower including Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Mt. Annapurna I (8,091m), Mt. Nilgiri (7,040m), Annapurna south (7,219m), Annapurna II (7,937m), Annapurna III (7,555m), Annapurna IV (7,525m), Hunchuli (6,441m), fishtail (6,998m), LamjungHimal (6,986m), Tukuche peak (6,920m) and Dhampus peak (6,012m). Enjoy a breakfast and drive to Pokhara Airport. Around 11:30, you will fly back to Kathmandu—a thrilling flight over forests, fields and villages, with the Himalayas in the background. Spend much of the afternoon relaxing and enjoying in Kathmandu. Stay overnight at your deluxe hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 07
Visit Moonlight School
After having breakfast,you will spend time with Moonlight School where you can do a 1.5 or 2 day service project including teaching a lesson, running classroom games & experiencing cultural interactions.You can also participate in service work and a construction project like painting classrooms, constructing a pathway, wall or toilet/building block or planting and supporting an organic garden. Students and teachers will enjoy a lunch with the Moonlight children and teachers as well. Stay overnight at a deluxe hotel in Kathmandu
Day 08
Visit Moonlight School and Fly back to home
The Moonlight Nepal Trekking and Adventure team will take you to the airport for your flight home. Alternatively, if your flight is in the evening, you can spend time with the Moonlight Kids again during the day and we will drop you at the airport in the evening 3 hours prior to your departure time.
